Our Director

Patrick Pearson is an award-winning director, theatre educator, and arts leader whose experience spans professional theatre, academic training, new work development, and nationally recognized cultural institutions.

 

He currently serves as Associate Professor and Chairman of the Department of Theatre and Musical Theatre at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. From 2013 to 2018, he was Director of Artistic Programming at Ford’s Theatre in Washington, D.C., where he played a key role in shaping artistic initiatives for one of the nation’s most historic theatrical institutions. Prior to that, he worked extensively as a freelance director in the Los Angeles and Orange County theatre communities.

 

Patrick’s directing credits include work at the Kennedy Center, Off-Broadway and national touring productions, regional theatres, Shakespeare festivals, university programs, and new musical development. Selected credits include The Diviners (Kennedy Center); Rooms: A Rock Romance (LA Ovation Award nomination for Best Director); Caps for Sale (Off-Broadway and national tour); Altar Boyz; Equus; A Prayer for Owen Meany; Grounded; Twelfth Night; A Midsummer Night’s Dream; Romeo and Juliet; The Diary of Anne Frank; Carrie; The Prom; The Legend of Georgia McBride; The Mousetrap; and Bloomsday, among others.

 

In addition to directing, Patrick has written educational opera programming for Washington National Opera productions of La Traviata and The Magic Flute. His upcoming projects include God of Carnage, The Taming of the Shrew, and Jesus Christ Superstar.

He is a member of the Stage Directors and Choreographers Society.

 

Patrick’s combination of professional directing experience, institutional leadership, academic credibility, and national theatre relationships makes him a key creative partner for this next phase of development for Holy Fire!
